Bio:

Photo: Lisa Manikowski Cookson Bret Barrett has been experimenting with art supplies, electronics and engineering since 1984. He is a robot enthusiast and loves observing insects, plants and their structures. He has been painting and making kinetic art in North Park since 2000. His paintings range from precision realist to biomorphic surrealism and sometimes include light and motion as well. His largest sculptures were powered by motorcycle engines and his smallest powered with magnets and dragonfly wings. Bret believes in the power of working together and has been collaborating with other artists throughout his whole career, blending his style of kinetic sculpture with various projects involving dancers, a glass artist, a bronze artist and most recently working with Kelly Hutchison (a.k.a. Dark Vomit), bringing animation to his stunning paintings and visions. The optimistic energy of Bret's work is seen throughout his diverse use of imagery and materials. The alternate realities exposed in his art exist where creativity and science collide resulting in objects and images of intrigue that anyone can enjoy.
